Influence

Not too many television series at the time have ever experimented with the mockumentary and cringe comedy genre. Not until The Office popularized it. The series derived its humor from socially awkward situations in serious places to show a sense of reality. The show provides awkward pauses to let the one-liner jokes sink in to make them that much more hilarious.

The Office has influenced shows such as “Parks and Rec” and “Modern Family”. Both “Modern Family” and “Parks and Rec” have almost entirely similar structures as The Office. “Parks and Rec does the same style of awkward comedy that leaves the viewer time to laugh between each joke. “Modern Family” also does the same "interviewing" process of the family matters throughout the day just like how "The Office" interviews the employees throughout their day to discuss the events that have happened in the office.
